26th February

by Dr Kartik Chaudhary

We began our day with yoga and positive energy in the morning.  Then, Dr Sandeep Gupta instructed us on wildlife forensics, during which time we learned about wildlife trade, sampling techniques, and molecular-level study involving the isolation of DNA from various materials. After that, Mr CP Sharma gave us a hands-on lesson in morphometry-based identification of various types of Wildlife artefacts. He also displayed various wildlife artefacts, including antlers, rhino horns, teeth, bones, skin, claws, and ivory, as well as their finished products. This improved our understanding and provided us with more insight.

After a satisfying meal, we began setting up four separate pretend crime scenes during the evening session in groups of four. The tutors instructed us on how to thoroughly examine a pretend crime scene and the need for veterinary assistance during that session. We then returned, and Srishti Badola gave us a purposeful task and shared some applicable life lessons. After this each group was given a chance to speak in front of everyone separately regarding their crime scene investigation task, and discussions took place. The acquiring, processing and reporting of evidence and the challenges faced by a manager of wildlife management were all covered in detail. This was an excellent learning opportunity for us all.
